Twelve persons were confirmed dead on Sunday morning when a boat laden with human beings and goods capsized at Ilashe area of the state.
One report said the accident occured when the boat was hit by storm causing it to tumble.
But Lagos State Government countered, saying the boat was overloaded and the jetty was an illegal one.
In another development residents of Iwaya, a Yaba Lagos surburb woke up on Sunday morning to witness the demolition of their homes by task force from the Lagos State Government.
Government said they were given notice of relocation since nine months but they chose to ignore it claiming they were in court over the land.
Residents of the area were busy taking away what was left of their bolongings after the bulldozer levelled the shanties and other buildings therein.
Yinka Egeyemi who is in charge of task force in Lagos said the land belongs to the University of Lagos and that the residents had long been warned to move but they refused.
