Fifteen All Progressive Congress senators including Dino Melaye and Rabiu Kwankwozo have defected to the opposition People’s Democratic Party, making the PDP the majority party in the Senate.

It was a move that was in the cards when the police got wind of it and tried to stop Senate President Bukola Saraki and his deputy,  Ike Ekweremadu from presiding over Tuesday plenary.

Saraki’s convoy had earlier in the day been blocked by the police while Ekweremadu was put under house arrest.

Saraki was, however able to beat the cordone around his convoy to go to the Senate to preside over the plenary.

President Muhammadu Buhari had met with Saraki last week to persuade him not to quit the All Progressive Congress and even dangled carrot.

Before the meeting, the president was in possession of security report about the damage Saraki was about to cause in the senate with his supporters.

On Monday Ibrahim Idris resurrected the Offa Kwara robbery incident of April where police claimed some miscreants linked to the incident fingered Saraki as their sponsor.

Police summoned Saraki on Monday to appear at the Force Headquarters on Tuesday.

Saraki was said to be on his way when the police blocked his convoy.

Little did they know he had already left for the Senate to preside over the session.

With the mass defection, the APC leadership has been left hollow and confused.

Sources said a similar development is awaited in the House of Representatives presided over by  Yakubu Dogara soon.

The source also said some APC governors have lined up to exit the party.

Many of the defectors want to teach Bola Tinubu,  Adams Oshiomhole and even Buhari and his army of stooges a lesson in politics.

The Senate adjourned sitting till September.
