Seventeen schoolchildren are feared killed after a heavy duty truck rammed into some students in the Ojodu area of Lagos State.

The incident occurred at Grammar School Bus-Stop along the Ogunusi Road on Tuesday afternoon when the schoolchildren were returning home after school activities.

The driver of the vehicle reportedly lost control and hit unspecified number of students.

Another version said the driver was trying to evade arrest by Road Safety officials when the vehicle veered off and crush the students.

While some claimed about 13 students were feared dead, others said 17 schoolchildren died in the accident.

The truck driver, whose identity was not immediately known fled the scene after killing the schoolchildren but was apprehended by police operatives attached to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Ojodu.

Attempts by irate mob to lynch the driver  was said to have been resisted by the police who took him into custody.

Angered by the action of the security operatives, the crowd began to pelt the police van conveying the driver to the station even as the trailer was razed by angry youths at Aguda Bus-stop, Ogba, Lagos.

This resulted in tension in the area, causing a gridlock in Ogba axis. However the police fired teargas to disperse the crowd and normalcy has returned in the area.
