Former governor of Ondo State and presidential aspirant on the platform of the Labour Party (LP), Olusegun Mimiko has been warned by Organised Labour against imposing himself on them because of his political ambition.
The Nigeria Labour Congress – founders of the Labour Party has therefore formally warned Mimiko not to impose himself on Labour Party.
The National Executive Council of NLC, the highest decision making organ of the Congress, met on Thursday in Abuja to deliberate on a number of crucial issues affecting workers and the Nigerian society, including issues around the LP.
The Labour leaders issued a Communiqué at the end of the meeting.
“Having received the Report of the Political Commission ( of the NLC) on LP, NEC noted the attempt by Dr. Olusegun Mimiko to impose himself on Labour Party with the active collaboration of A A Salam, the former Chairman of the Labour Party.
“That for the avoidance and clarity of doubt which linger on the minds of some uninformed NLC asserted that LP was registered by the NLC, TUC, allies in the Civil Society and Market Women and Men, especially as a platform for Nigerian workers and allies. It is in view of these attributes that Labour Party is an ideological party.
“That Dr Olusegun Mimiko has no business meddling in the affairs of LP.
“That he is warned not to attempt to hijack LP and that there is a subsisting CONSENT JUDGMENT on LP which shall be respected and enforced.”
Mimiko was elected twice as Governor of Ondo state but as his tenure was coming to an end he defected to then Peoples Democratic Party which caused major upheaval in LP.
Recently, Mimiko having declared intention to run for presidency in 2019 on the platform of the LP.
