The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Executive Committee (NEC), has generally agreed  to extend the tenure of all elected and appointed officers of the party in the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the national level by one year.

The decision was reached at the 5th NEC meeting of the party which held on Monday, February 26 night in Abuja.
The current tenure should have ended on June 30, 2018.
By this decision, all affected officers will continue in acting capacity for another period of 12 months after the expiration of their current term.
The NEC, also by unanimous decision, passed a vote of confidence on President Muhammadu Buhari and the Party’s National Working Committee (NWC), led by the National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun.

Buhari and  Odigie-Oyegun at the meeting challenged the party members to prepare for the 2019 polls by ensuring that they play according to the rules.

Buhari particularly urged the members to ensure peaceful conduct of the ward, local government and state congresses as well as national convention without any form of rancour.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the national leader of APC, Bola Tinibu were all in attendance.

Many see the extension of Odigie- Oyegun tenure which the 36 states chairmen of the APC also canvassed for as an avenue for the party chairman to consolidate on his achievements.

Oyegun has always appealed to members to play by the rule and to ensure that their actions were geared towards the unity of the party.
