Nigeria’s former President Olusegun Obasanjo was in Benue at the weekend to commiserate the government and people of the state over the senseless killings that have taken place there of late.
During the visit, Obasanjo laid wreath at the place where mass burial was given to the 73 Benue indigenes who lost their lives to the farmers/ herdsmen clashes recently.
The former President said it is the responsibility of government and leaders to find the root cause of the festering problem and advised Governor Samuel Ortom to remain steadfast and courageous in his efforts to find a lasting solution, and in the face of the crisis.
Obasanjo assured that something must be done to deal with the situation once and for all as the development was capable of affecting local and foreign investment in the area and other parts of Nigeria.
Ortom expressed gratitude to Obasanjo for his concern and urged him to draw it in the ears of the National government to take the ordeal the Benue people have gone through seriously by finding a lasting solution.
