The crisis rocking the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) is taking a different dimension with a faction on Wednesday saying the APC leadership as currently constituted has failed Nigerians and so proceeded to form a break away APC.
Tagged ‘Reformed APC’, the faction within Nigeria’s ruling party All Progressive Congress (APC) announced its break away to form a separate faction at a news conference in Abuja on Wednesday.
The members of the new group said the split had become necessary because the APC’s leadership had annihilated its original members.
The Reformed APC said that strong members from nPDP, and defunct CPC, ANPP and ACN, are part of the new group.
The news conference was addressed by a one time die-hard of President Muhammadu Buhari, Buba Galadinma.
Galadinma, a former secretary of the congress for Progressive Change said “the Reformed All Progressive Congress (RAPC) national executive committee has been constituted.
The Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) was Buhari’s former party.
Galadinma said: “We are assembled to address you on the state of our party, APC, the state of the nation and above all the constitutional democracy of Nigeria. I am standing here before you as the chairman of RAPC. You will recall that in 2015 general election some political parties came together to form a brand new political party called APC.”
“This merger was based on the strong belief that Nigeria had come of age that it was severely under-performing and incapable to meet the potentials of good governance.
“The Nigerian people gave power to APC based on its promises and potentials. We are sad to inform that after more than three years of governance, our expectations (have been) completely dashed. The APC has run a ruthless and incompetent government that has failed to deliver good governance to the people.
“It has rather imposed dictatorship, impunity, abuse of power, complete application of constitutional and statutory responsibilities, impunity in the rule of law and constitutionality. It has failed to ensure the security and welfare of Nigerian and elevated nepotism to secondary height.”
Galadinma said the current APC leadership has failed to resolve the growing insecurity in the country, a situation the party can no longer be trusted going forward.
At the news conference was also former nPDP leader, Kawu Baraje, a man believed to be the eye of the Senate President Bukola Saraki at the RAPC for now.
After the recent convention of the APC, the party has been facing one internal crisis or the other, some of which were carry over from the past.
In the National Assembly, where the APC even has the majority members, the party has not been at ease as most of the virulent critics are from within.
Saraki on Tuesday alleged that APC ministers and governors were sponsoring protests against the NASS members and called on Buhari to investigate the act.
The senate president said he knows the ministers and the governors engaged in such despicable act that is further destroying the image of the APC.
