The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared Dr. Kayode Fayemi winner of the governorship election held in Ekiti State on Saturday.
Fayemi defeated other 34 candidates including the closest rivalry and deputy governor of the state, Professor Kolapo Olusola-Eleka of the People’s Democratic Party.
The election was keenly contested and was more or less between Fayemi Na Olusola-Eleka.
Fayemi won in 11 out of the 16 local government areas in Ekiti.
He scored a total of 197,459 votes to beat the PDP candidate who svored 178, 121 votes.
Prof. Idowu Olayinka, the INEC Chief Returning Officer aais Fayemi of the All Progressive Congress met the requirements for the winner and was accordingly declared winner.
He had 19, 338 votes more than his closest contestant.
Ahead of his declaration Fayemi supporters were jubilating and sending him congratulatory messages on tje social media.
The INEC had cautioned against announcing result online when collation was still in progress.
GovernorAyodele Fayose had on Saturday complained that security operatives colluded with the APC to openly rig the poll by offering the electorate money whole election was in progress.
Electoon monitors also decried the use of money by politicians to induce electorate.
