The police in Lagos are working hard to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of a medical doctor by suicide on the third mainland bridge on Sunday, March 19.
The doctor identified simply as Orji reportedly ordered his driver to pull over at the Adekunle area of the bridge with his SUV car, a Nissan marked LND 476 EE at about 4.50pm before he jumped into the river.
His driver has been telling the police all he knew about the ugly incident since yesterday as detectives work to unravel the reasons behind the suicide.
His driver was arrested by the police at Adeniji Adele almost immediately.
Eye witnesses said Orji left a note on his notepad explaining his address. One of the eyewitnesses said Orji must have been a victim of depression going by the manner he took his life.
All efforts to recover his corpse yesterday proved abortive.
Officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency said appropriate investigation will reveal the real cause of Orji’s death.
Police Commissioner for Lagos State Command, Fatai Owoseni said he had visited the deceased’s family and had had a chat with the mother and some members of his church.
Owoseni also feels investigation will unravel the real cause of his death.
Meanwhile mixed reactions are trailing Orji’s death as some people sympathise with him while others say he was wrong to have taken a life he did not create.
There are those who said the public should feel for the family he lrft behind and not a man who killed himself regardless of the circumstances.
