The police in Nigeria have said they are not in the know of the alleged abduction of the senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye.

It was widely reported on Thursday that Melaye was abducted by unknown gunmen on his way to attend a court case in Lokoja involving him. But despite the wide publicity the alleged abduction attracted, the police said they have no report on that.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has said that it was not aware of the abduction of Senator Melaye.

Senator Ben Murray Bruce, had raised the alarm on his twitter handle – @benmurraybruce saying- “I have just been informed by Moses Melaye, @dino_melaye’s brother, that Dino has been abducted by unknown persons in a Toyota Sienna that blocked their car and overpowered them on their way to Kogi to answer to Dino’s court case. Let’s be on the watch out. Will keep you updated.”

The FCT Police Command said it was not aware of the abduction as nobody has informed the police.

“We do not have any report about the kidnap of Senator Dino Melaye,” said the police public relations officer of the FCT command, Anjuguri Mamza.

Melaye was on Wednesday, July 25, arraigned in a FCT high court, Apo, on a six-count charge bordering on an attempted suicide and damage to police property.

He denied committing the offences, and Justice Silvanus Oriji who heard the matter granted him bail in the sum of N5 million.
