Governor Rochas Okorocha Imo State has pledged a reward of N20 million for information that will lead to the arrest of the killers of a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Sunny Ejiagwu  was murdered few days after he was elected the APC chairman for Ideato North local government along the Orlu-Akokwa Road on his way home after attending a meeting at the APC Secretariat in Owerri, the state capital.

Of late, Imo politics has become volatile with the face-off between Okorocha and some key chieftains of the APC.

On Friday, hours after  Ejiagwu was killed Okorocha promised to give out N20million to whoever will volunteer credible information for the arrest of the assassins.

The spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, Andrew Enwerem, said the police have launched an investigation into the killing.

Meanwhile, the Imo State APC faction Chairman, Daniel Nwafor, has condemned the killing, describing it as unfortunate and unwarranted.

Nwafor told reporters at the party’s state secretariat that the murder was capable of causing political chaos in the state.

He called on the security agencies to urgently launch a manhunt for the perpetrators of the act.

He recalled that the deceased had raised fears over his safety on Thursday during one of their meetings, decrying the volatile nature of his local government.
