Thirteen chairmen of local government areas in Benue State have dumped the All Progressive Congress for the opposition People’s Democratic Party.

The council chairmen were at the Government House Makurdi on Saturday to announce their new political platform to Governor Samuel Ortom.

With the defection of 13 council chairmen, the state is left with only 10 council chairmen still loyal to the APC.

Speaking when the chairmen visited him, Ortom said the PDP has proved to be reformed and that it remains the better option for him and the council chairmen.

He urged the council chairmen to remain steadfast and committed to their new plaform, assuring them that they owe their people a duty of selfless service.

Ortom defected to the PDP on Thursday saying the APC has shown it does not want him.

Ortom and senator George Akume have been having a face-off over who controls the APC structure in Benue.

All attempts by the APC leadership  to settle their rift failed, with Ortom reiterating that it seemed he was no longer wanted in their midst.
