After freezing the accounts of the Benue State government on Tuesday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has extended the same to Akwa Ibom State.

The Akwa Ibom State government gave the hint on Wednesday with speculations rife that the newly defected former governor of the state, Godswill Akpabio was behind it.

Charles Udom, commissioner for information of the state confirmed the development.

Akpabio is complaining that most governors are not using their security vote for the purpose it is meant for.

In the case of Akwa Ibom he is afraid the governor, Udom Emmanuel will have enough money to fight him hence the need to stop him early enough.

But the chairman of the Nugeria Governors Forum, Abdulaziz Yari has kicked against the freezing of Benue State government’s account saying it will lead to the shutting down of government activities.

He said Governor Samuel Ortom has not been having it easy with resources and that it will be wrong to compound the problem facing the state by freezing the government account.

Yari said the idea will not work and should not be made to work.

Of late, the APC government has been using the EFCC as a political tool to cow governments and politicians who think different from the party.

National Chairman of the party Adams Oshiomhole recently boasted that they will go after those who defected from the APC in order to teach others a lesson.

Many believe that what EFCC is doung is in line with Oshiomhole’s threat.

Acting EFCC chairman Ibrahim Magu is believed to be a card carrying member of the APC and wears the badge of President Muhammadu Buhari for reelection to official assignments.
