Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki has been accused of holding Nigeria to ransom following the non approval to the budget of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for 2018 election.

He has therefore been urged to stop holding the country to ransom by immediately reconvening the Senate to deliberate on urgent national issues.

In a press statement in Abuja on Friday,  the Buhari Media Organisation (BMO) said it is worrisome that the Senate President has continued to postpone the resumption of the Senate despite several calls by Nigerians for the Senate to reconvene and deliberate on some critical matters such as the INEC budget and approval for foreign loans tied to several critical infrastructure.

The statement signed by the Chairman Niyi Akinsiju and Secretary, Cassidy Madueke said that, “going by the intransigence of the Senate President to reconvene the Senate, we are left with no other conclusion than to say that in reality Senator Saraki is the one laying siege on the whole country by using his position to undermine the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.”

BMO added: “We are also constrained to recall that the back-door emergence of Saraki as Senate President has continued to follow his every step, as, rather than working in the interest of the country, he has engaged more in parochialism, pettiness, and politics of bitterness and sabotage of national interests. The refusal of his leadership to timeously consider serious matters of national importance sent by the President has contributed to the delay in the completion of some strategic national projects, and this is hurting Nigerians.”

The group therefore called on the Senate President “to resign without further delay as his continued stay as Senate President is doing more harm than good to the progress and development of the country. We also implore him to save Nigeria from further embarrassment, and desist from actions that are likely to plunge the country into avoidable crisis.

The group said: “We also use this medium to debunk the allegation by the former governor of Jigawa state, Alhaji Sule Lamido, that there is corruption in Aso Rock. This allegation is not only spurious but false and calculated to dent the good image of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration. We consider the latest accusation as the figment of his imagination as such is impossible under President Buhari.

“Even the claim by the Sokoto state governor, Aminu Tambuwal that the president is not healthy and a cabal is running the affairs of government, we also see it as an emerging trend by the Peoples Democratic Party to embark on a campaign of calumny against the Buhari administration and we call on Nigerians to take the accusations with a pinch of salt and demand that the PDP account for their sixteen years of maladministration.

Tambuwal had in recent time engaged deliberate campaign of calumny against the President.

Reacting to Tambuwal’s vituperations, the BMO warned that the Sokoto State Governor is on a road to perdition just like Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State in 2015, adding that this infamous style of politics belonged in the past.
The  BMO said: ‘’It is necessary to remind Tambuwal that it is not African tradition for young people to insult their elders and such negative attitude usually has its consequences. We also advise Governor Tambuwal to draw a lesson from what happened to Ayo Fayose in the last Ekiti governorship election, as he was roundly rejected by the electorate due to his non-performance and unguarded utterances.
“We also want to assure Tambuwal that his case will not be different from that of Ayo Fayose, as he will not only be rejected as the next governor of Sokoto state, but his presidential ambition will remain a pipe-dream as he has not only denied his people development but has wasted the scarce resources he ordinarily should have used to render service to the good people of Sokoto state. Definitely Tambuwal will go into political oblivion in 2019 as he is already running against the tide.’’
The group also reminded Tambuwal that  Buhari’s integrity and track record are clear for everyone to see, and this is the reason for their continued support for him and those he supports in elections. ‘
“This support was also manifested in the recent by-elections in Bauchi, Kogi, and Katsina states where the All Progressives Congress trounced all their opponents including Tambuwal’s PDP and there is no doubt that he will win the next presidential election with a landslide.’’
