Ahead of the 2019 general election in Nigeria, the federal government has raised the alarm that politicians are buying arms and equipping their supporters with them.
Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation dropped the hint in Abuja on Saturday during a breakfast meeting with the private sector.
Mustapha said the development was worrisome and goes against the efforts of government to secure the lives and property of the citizens.
He said while it is the primary responsibility of government to secure lives and property of the citizens, it behoves the citizens as a whole to partake in efforts aimed at ensuring that they are save and their property protected.
He regretted that out of desperation politicians are more concerned about what to do to win election than how to work with government on how to contribute to the security of our society.
