“Today, I stand here on the strength of those ratings, commendations and endorsement to declare before our Party that I will offer myself again to serve our people for a second term beginning from 2019”
That was how Governor Udom Emmanuel, Akwa-Ibom State communicated to the teeming crowd that surrounded the ambitious Godswill Akpabio International stadium on Friday, August 24 as he moves to counter insinuations that he lacks support base without Senator Akpabio, his godfather.
Akpabio had defected to the All Progressive Congress (APC) a fortnight ago, boasting that Emmanuel will lose Akwa Ibom with out him.
But many Akwa Ibom politicians dismissed the boast and assured that the state will always be loyal to the governor and his party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
On Friday, therefore, the people in unmistakable terms demonstrated their huge support base for Emmanuel when he formally told them he will be seeking reelection of his PDP platform come next year.
