The Lagos State House of Assembly says there is no reason for now to remove Governor Akinwunmi Ambode from office through impeachment.
Rumours have been flying around about the plan by the Assembly to impeach Ambode, with some newspapers insinuating that national leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu was behind the plot.
But the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa has thrown a better light into the rumour saying they are not thinking of impeaching Ambode if there are no constitutional breaches.
He said: “We have been alleged to have started an impeachment process on our governor.
“We are not embarking on any impeachment process. Mr Gov hasn’t done anything to warrant such.
“Impeachment is constitutional. It is not an offense if we embark on it but there is no basis for it now. We will only do this if there is the need for it.
“We don’t need wailers to advise us on how we go about our duties. The process has no secrecy, it is done in the open.
“We are only answerable to the people of Lagos and the electorate that elected us.
“All wailers, this is to you that you can’t teach us our job. There’s nothing like impeachment for now let me put it that way. We are working in harmony with our gov to move the state forward.”
