It took the defection of the only remaining People’s Democratic Party (PDP) senator from Rivers State in the Senate, Osinakachukwu Ideozu for the state to lose its three senators to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
Osinakachukwu Ideozu , the Senator representing Rivers West, shocked the PDP leadership at the centre and in Rivers when he defected to the APC.
Senator Ahmed Lawan, Majority Leader of the Senate, announced Osinakachukwu’ s defection at plenary on Wednesday, October 24.
While moving a motion for the adjournment of plenary till November 6 , Lawan, welcomed and congratulated Osinakachukwu for joining the majority party.
Rivers State is a PDP controlled state, but with Osinakachukwu’s defection, the three senators from Rivers are now members of the APC .
The others are Senator Andrew Uchendu (Rivers East ) and Magnus Abe (Rivers South East ).
The implication is that it will require Governor Nyesom Wike’s extra effort to win the governorship race in Rivers State.
It is believed that the senators who were originally PDP have one axe or the other to grind with Wike due to his arrogance and intolerable way of leadership.
