The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) in the early hours of Tuesday, took over the entire National Assembly complex, a move connected to the efforts by the authorities to stem the ongoing strike by the NASS workers.

Civil Servants under the aegis of Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria have been protesting what they called non payment of their salaries and allowances.

Although the lawmakers still observed their sitting, the police were obviously brought in to ensure that legislative processes were not interrupted as a result of the strike.

The protesting civil servants are targeting Wednesday when President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to hold a joint session with the NASS to present his 2019 budget proposal.

The House of Representatives spokesman, Namdas Abdulrazak said it would be unfair to disrupt the proceeding where the president is involved.

It is believed that the presence of the police was at the prompting of the NASS leadership.
