Eligible voters for the 2019 general election that starts this Saturday, February 16 yet to collect their Permanent Voters Cards ( PVCs) are in mad rush to do so as the deadline set for that ends today.
The Independent National Electoral Commission had extended the deadline for the last time last week to enanle thos who were yet to collect their PVCs to do so over the weekend and today, Monday, February 11.
At the weekend most voters complained they were finding it difficult to collect their cards, blaming it all on the activities of INEC officials.
In fact, some od the prospective voters accused the INEC officials of collecting money from the desperate voters before handing their PVCs over to them.
Many people skipped churches on Sunday to collect their PVCs but only a few succeeded in collecting their.
The situation was not better on Saturday.
Some of the collection centres visited by Armadanews.com looked so chaotic that one wondered how possible it would ne for the voters to collect their PVCs.
At the Ikeja council, there were unconfirmed reports that non Yorubas were deliberately denied their PVCS.
A similar allegation was also heard at the Ifako- Ijaye local government where it was said only prospective voters with sympathy for the All Progressive Congress were getting their cards easily.
But one woman who identified herself simply as Chioma said she had no difficulty collecting her own even though she came late.
The INEC insists the PVCs have been lying in their offices but the owners refused to pick them up.
It had earlier set a deadline for collections last week bur extended it again till today ahead of the presidential election that is five days way.
Majority of those who are rusjing ro collect theie PVCs now said they did not have the time to so earlier due to their job schedule.
Thw INEC said last week there will ne no more extension after the expiration of today’s deadline.
