Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on Wednesday congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo for their success at the 2019 presidential election, saying that it was a victory well deserved.
Ambode, in a statement by his chief press secretary, Habib Aruna, said the victory was not just a confirmation of the people’s love for President Buhari, but an attestation that Nigerians were happy with the progress the Federal Government has made in the last four years.
Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was in the early hours of Wednesday declared winner by chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, polling a total of 15,191,847 to defeat his closest challenger, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who got a total of 11, 262,978.
The governor said: “Let me join millions of our loyal party faithful in the State and across the country to congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo for their resounding victory at last Saturday’s polls. This is indeed a historic moment because Nigerians have used their votes to show Mr. President that they are happy with the progress the country has made on several sectors of the polity.
“This is a victory for democracy; it is a victory for good governance and a clear statement from Nigerians that they are ready to move to the next level with President Muhammadu Buhari.”
Ambode also commended Lagosians for coming out in thousands and for being peaceful and orderly during the elections.
Also, the Lagos State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has congratulated Buhari on his victory in the presidential election held on Saturday.
In a statement by his media team on Wednesday, Sanwo-Olu described Buhari’s success at the poll as “not only well-deserving, but a valid testimony to the fact that Nigerians acknowledge and are appreciative of his reformative initiatives designed to bring forth a better Nigeria.”
Sanwo-Olu said: ”Your Excellency, I heartily congratulate you on your success at the recent presidential election held across Nigeria last weekend. Your landslide victory is a validation and appreciation of your hard work and commitment to the fight against corruption. With this deserved victory, your selflessness and dedication to the services of our motherland have become a new leadership model in Nigeria.
“Expectedly, the reward for good work is more work. So, your victory in the nationwide free and fair election, which is a validation of how your leadership has rekindled hope in millions of Nigerians at home and abroad, has provided yet another valuable opportunity for better Nigeria since democracy has found a permanent place in our country.”
He also described Buhari as the perfect man for the job of taking Nigeria out of the inherited socio-economic quagmire, adding that the evident giant strides of the president in infrastructure, agriculture, security and economic stability should be sustained.
The APC flag bearer called on Nigerians to live in peace and harmony, saying that there is a lot more to benefit from “what unites us than what divides us.’’
Sanwo-Olu emphasised his commitment to run an inclusive government where all ethnic nationalities will have a say in the affairs of the state.
