The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) is poised to challenge the call for some political parties to be de-listed following their abysmal performance in the 2019 general election.

The leaders of many of the political parties who participated during the polls but whose parties were unable to win either at the presidential, governorship, national or state assembly levels think that democracy thrives when the political space is opened for more parties to participate in.

They are therefore planning to sue the Independent National electoral Commission (INEC) to court against any plan to delist their parties from the list of registered political parties in Nigeria.

Armadanews.com gathered on Wednesday that leaders of such parties are already putting things together and will be heading for the court next week to challenge any such moves.

Many Nigerian are calling for the de-registration of most of the political parties, saying they are not only a distraction to the INEC, but a big drain on the scarce resources of the country in terms of their maintenance.

Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) is among those who have spoken strongly about the reduction in the number of registered political parties in Nigeria.

Falana had advised the INEC to delist 80 political parties.

Former National Electoral Commission (NEC) Chairman, Prof. Humphery Nwosu also recently suggested that the country should be content with  two political system.
