The presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party in the 2019 election Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Peter Obi have felicitated the governorship candidate of the party in the Osun 2018 election over his victory at the tribunal.
Ademola Adeleke was on Friday declared winner of the Osun state 2018 governorship election where Adegboyega Oyetola was declared winner.
A three-man election petition tribunal sitting in Abuja said Adeleke won the election.
Atiku, Obi, PDP National Chairman Uche Secondus, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu and Senator Ben Murray- Bruce were among the nemerous persons felicitating with Adeleke on the tribunal’s pronouncements.
Ekweremadu said it was a vuctory for democracy while Secondus lauded the judiciary for standing on the truth.
Atiku and Obi said the victory is an indication that there is still hope for real democracy in Nigeria.
Ekweremadu congratulated the people of Osun state on the restoration of their mandate, saying the victory is for the sanctity of the ballot box, rule of law, and democracy.
Meanwhile, Governor Oyetola has urged Osun people to remain calm as he is still in the saddle.
He said he has already appealed the judgement of the tribunal and promised to protect all the citizens.
A statement issued by the secretary to the state government, Wole Oyebanji, said security agencies have been directed to maintain the peace even as he promised that the governor will remain focused in his avowed resolve to provide good leadership to the state.
Oyebanji said the governor appreciates the teeming support of the majority of the people in all thing essential for mutual progress.
