The decision of Former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Adesola Amosun and three others standing trial for alleged conversion of over N21 billion to enter into plea bargain with the Federal Government shows that the anti-corruption campaign is still alive.

The Buhari Media Organisation (BMO) which made this observation also acknowledged the efforts of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and its sister agencies in the prosecutions of corruption cases, and for living up to expectations of Nigerians.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Niyi Akinsiju and Secretary, Cassidy Madueke, the group wondered how such a huge amount of money could be diverted in one financial year and by just one agency of government.

“Worse still is that this diversion or misappropriation of funds meant for military hardware and troops’ welfare happened in the heat of anti-insurgency war when our troops needed the hardware and huge moral support to contain the insurgency.” the statement stressed”.

According to the pro-Buhari group, “the fight against corruption must not lose steam under any circumstances, and now that the current administration is about to begins its second term in office, everything possible should be done to strengthen its anti-corruption campaign.

“It is on record that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had on January 16 obtained a court order forfeiting N2.2 billion recovered from Air Marshall Amosun to the Federal Government. Also forfeited was N101 million recovered from Solomon Enterprises, a company linked to him.

“At this point it should be crystal clear, even to the most cynical that the anti-corruption fight is not a witch-hunt.  What we have been witnessing in the country in respect of revelations from various anti-corruption cases in our law courts talks to the reality of the rot and corruption in the past administrations of the Peoples Democratic Party”

As President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to be more ruthless in the anti-corruption campaign in his second term, we urge Nigerians to support the President in the fight, while government is addressing the deficiencies of our system.
