Nigeria’s Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who was on an official visit to Imo State was on Friday honoured with the award of Grande Chancellor of Imo State by the outgoing Governor Rochas Okorocha.
The award was part of event held by Okorocha to thank Osinbajo who earlier in tha day commissioned most of the projects executed by Okorocha.
Okorocha said the award on Osinbajo was for his resoluteness in producing results.
Osinbajo, while commissioning projects executed by Okorocha including the Imo International Exhibition Centre which has was later renamed after the vice president as Professor Yemi Osinbajo Exhibition Centre, said he was satisfied with the work the governor did in his eight years in power in Imo.
Osinbajo said: “I felt that it’s very important to recognise what His Excellency has done in these past 8 years. He is extremely commendable and I don’t know like many others that have done the amount of work especially in infrastructure that he has done, schools, hospitals etc.
“I’ve also commissioned hospital premises of the Air Force, the Police and others like them at three or four places. A lot of these projects like he said are not advertised or published in any way.
“I’ve always found him very strange. I must say so because he’s otherwise someone who is not quiet but decided to keep quiet about his achievements. I’ve not been able to understand that because anybody who knows him will not say he’s a quiet man.
“I want to say that he has done extremely well in this past 8 years and sometimes his contemporaries will choose to make loud noise for very few they have achieved.”
Osinbajo commissioned other projects like the Government House Clinic, the Ultra-modern Governor’s lodge, Odenigbo Guest House, first lady’s office complex, Sam Mbakwe road, Nnamdi Azikiwe road, Assumpta road, among others.
During the award, Okorocha thanked the Vice President for honouring his invitation, saying Osinbajo was being honoured for his selfless services to the Nigerian people.
Okorocha advised the young Nigerians to study and follow the footsteps of the Vice President who he described as a humble man with numerous achievements beneath his belt.
