The first tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari has officially ended today, May 28, 2019 with the President set to take oath of office for his second term on Wednesday, May 29, 2019.
Buhari’s second tern was renewed when he won the presidential election in February this year to beat the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.
Atiku is challenging the victory at the Tribunal.
All is set for Buhari and his deputy, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s inauguration for another four year tenure which will come to an end in 2023.
Former Information Minister, Lai Mohammed said the inauguration would be low-key, but that on June 12, 2019, there would be elaborate celebration to mark Democracy Day since the government had officially recognised that day as the main Democracy day.
Since the return to civil rule on May 29, 1999, Democracy Day has been celebrated on that day.
Dignitaries across the globe have been invited for this year’s Democracy Day which will coincide with Buhari’s second term in office.
The inauguration on Wednesday will start at 10 am with visitors expected to be seated before 9 am, according to the organising committee headed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.
Security has been beefed up at the Eagle Square venue of the inauguration with some areas designated as parking lots.
