The Akachi Towers built by former Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state was on Thursday demolished by unknown persons.
But following the outcry that the administration of Governor Emeka Ihedioha may be behind the demolition, the government said it has no hand in it.
A tractor was sighted pulling down a section of the Towers on Thursday, but commentators on the social media think the demolition was coming rather to early if it was ordered by Ihedioha.
“Can someone tell me it is not true, one commentator said on his Facebook Wall.
In a statement on Thursday, Ihedioha’s Special Adviser on Media, Steve Osuji said Akachi Towers was the least of projects done by Okorocha that Ihedioha would bother about now when there are better things to embark on.
Osuji said his principal does not even have an office yet to work from as there was no proper hand-over, and indicated that those who must have been involved in the demolition could be aggrieved persons, including contractors who had complained they were not paid by Okorocha.
Regardless, Osuji said the Ihedioha administration will not tolerate lawlessness and indicated that law enforcement agencies had been called in to deal with those who will test the will of government if they are not ready to be law abiding.
During Ihedioha’s inauguration on May 29, he said his administration will critically assess the ‘projects’ of the previous Government and that any project that falls short of being relevant to Imo people would be removed.
