Police in Delta State have paraded a middle aged man allegedly involved in kidnapping activities who told them that he abandoned his legal work as a soldier to be involved in kidnapping.
The suspect on Monday, May 8 recounted how he retired from his prestigious military job as a soldier to focus on full-blown crime of kidnapping ladies.
The Police Command paraded the alleged leader of a five-man kidnapping gang, identified as Tola Saliu, who is a 40 years, and former army lance corporal.
The police said he was specialised in the abduction of women driving in flashy cars in Asaba and environs.
Speaking to newsmen, the suspect said: “My victims have always been females. I have never gone for my kind. I kidnap valuable girls, ladies and women and this has never failed us. I resigned as a soldier to concentrate on kidnapping.”
Delta State Commissioner of Police, Zanna Ibrahim, his Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Andrew Aniamaka, and the team of detectives, said the suspect had been a notorious kidnapper because of his military experience.
Ibrahim said he was on the verge of beating the intelligence of his men on the day he was arrested “but his tactical withdrawal failed him and here we are today.”
He added that Saliu and his gang members, now at large, usually trailed their victims to places of interest, including eateries, supermarkets, and schools.
He said part of his strategy included pouncing on their victims and ferrying them away in their waiting car.
