The Oba of Benin, HRM Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare 11 on Thursday led a delegation of other traditional rulers from the Edo state to meet President Muhammadu Buhari on the lingering feud between Governor Godwin Obaseki and national chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole.
Obaseki and his political godfather, Oshiomhole, have been having a face-off for many weeks now over who controls the party machinery in Edo, particularly the State House of Assembly.
It is believed to be about the governorship election in Edo next year and Oshiomhole’s plot to present another candidate instead of Obaseki.
The Oba told Buhari to wade into the matter as their face-off was affecting governance and other activities in Edo.
The monarch also used the opportunity to solicit Buhari magnanimity in appointing more than one minister from Edo as the state is the only one in the South that is now in APC.
Also, the Oba requested Buhari to intervene in the epileptic manner the Benin Disco has carried its operations in the state and beyond, saying the Benin Disco has practically destroyed businesses in the state.
Buhari promised to look into the matters the monarchs brought before him and asked the newsmen to excuse them so that he could have a heart to heart with them.
When the Edo monarchs emerged from the session, they said the president was willing to comply to their request as he has a lot of respect for the Oba.
