Senator Elisha Ishaku Abbo on Tuesday did not control his temperament when he faced the Senate Committee set up by the leadership to investigate him on the allegation of assaulting a lady at a sex toy shop in Abuja last week.

Senator Abbo was spotted  engaging in an argument with members of the Senate Committee set up to investigate the incident, particularly Senator Oluremi Tinubu who had asked why he was so mean to the lady, an act that could lead to Abbo’s suspension by the senate.

Abbo questioned Tinubu for having the audacity to talk about his suspension when they are both senators, and cautioned her to be wary of threatening him.

Trouble stared when Abbo was asked to swear on oath before the Senate committee.

Traditionally, persons invited before Senate committees are made to take oaths to pledge to say the truth before they are allowed to testify.

There were exchanges as Abbo insisted he would address the panel before taking an oath.

But Senator Tinubu, a member of the committee refused, insisting Abbo swears an oath before saying anything. But he bluntly refused; saying the case was in court.

“This matter is in court. I cannot be talking in front of cameras when the matter is already in court. That’s subjudice,” Abbo said.

Tinubu retorted: “Distinguished. You just joined us. We have a procedure and we are also under law. You don’t come in here and dictate to us what should be done.

“You are on the other side now. You don’t tell us what to do…because we can suspend you.”

That was the comment that enraged Abbo who questioned Tinubu whether she was threatening him.

And angrily Abbo interjected: “I will not sit here and listen to you threaten me with suspension. I am a senator like you. You cannot threaten me with suspension.”

There was chaos which lasted for few minutes, and prompting the committee to ask newsmen to leave for the meeting to continue behind closed doors.

Abbo had been taken to court and was admitted to bail in the tune of N5 million.

His attitude to the nursing mother attracted so much condemnation that Abbo personally apologised to Nigerians and asked for forgiveness.
