El-Zakzaky members confront police in another Abuja protest

Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria have returned to the streets of the nation’s capital, to protest the continued detention of their leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

 

They are protesting to continue to register their displeasure over the failure of government to obey court orders as they affect their members and leaders.

 

Channels Television reported that the police fired tear gas canisters to disperse them while some members of the group were arrested.

 

The members created a scene on Tuesday when they dared the police at the National Assembly, shooting at some of them and  causing panic everywhere.

 

The latest protest took place at the Federal Secretariat area also in Abuja.

 

On Tuesday, several vehicles were damaged while five policemen were injured during a similar clash at the national assembly.

 

Forty suspects were arrested in connection with the Tuesday incident.

 

According to the FCT police spokesman, Anjuguri Manzah, those arrested have been arraigned at several courts within the nation’s capital.

 

The Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu had visited his injured men in hospital to encourage them.

 

One of the policemen injured said  a member of the group who shot at him did with an AK47 riffle.
