Members of the El-Zakzaky Islamic group have taken their protest over the continuing detention of their leader by the authorities to Lagos.
They laid siege Friday, July 19 morning, at the popular Maryland roundabout, taking over the entire stretch of the tunnels on the surrounding bridges on that part of Lagos.
Their presence worsened the already biting early morning gridlock at Maryland.
The group bore placards that pleaded with the President Muhammadu Buhari-led to honour court orders directing the release from detention of their spiritual leader, El-Zakzaky and other in custody.
Last week the group protested at the National Assembly, clashing with the police in gun shots.
The police arrested and charged most of the protesters to court but that did not deter them from a repeat protest the following day.
One of their leaders who spoke to Armadanews on the refusal of government to release their leader said they will continue to protest even if all of them are either arrested or killed by the police.
The police in Lagos also had a hectic day checkmating the protest so that it is not hijacked by hoodlums on standby.
