Senator Ike Ekweremadu, former deputy senate President of Nigeria was embarrassed on Saturday, August 17 in Germany by a group of persons who claimed to be members of the Independent Peoples of Biafra (IPOB).
The said IPOB members reportedly accosted Ekweremadu who was a guest at an ocassion he was invited and assaulted him.
Ekweremadu was attending the second annual cultural festival and convention organised by Igbo in Nuxembrrg Germany as keynote speaker.
In a statement he issued on the attack, Ekweremadu said the event was going on well when the group of persons who claimed to be members of the IPOB came and started assaulting him to everyone”s consternation.
He said the organisers had to invite the police when his efforts at engaging them peacefully failed.
Ekweremadu said the boys accused him of not doing anything on the killings of Ndigbo and general insecurity in the region.
Meanwhile the assault had been condemned by many Igbo leaders some of who said the socalled IPOB member’s were already behaving like terrorists.
They regretted that they were ignorance of the fact that Ekweremadu was instrumental to the negotiations that led to Nnamdi Kanu being given bail by the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.
President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Nnia Nwodo in his reaction said the attack on Ekweremadu was a disgrace on the Igbo race.
Nwodo was to have attended the event with Ekweremadu.
