Tragedy struck this evening at Kara end of the ever busy Lagos- Ibadan expressway as two petroleum tankers belonging to Total Oil exploded and caught fire.

The incident has worsened the gridlock on the road with the repair work already taking toll on road users.

The deceased were said to be the petroleum attendants of Total Oil who were drafted to the place to transload product from one of the tankers that fell on the road in the morning.

Eyewitness told Armadanews.com that the tankers had spent more than 10 hours before efforts were made to remove them Wednesday evening.

The dead attendants were said to be removing the pipe from one tanker to the other for easy transloading when suddenly it touched the exhaust and fire exploded.

By 6pm, the traffic situation on the road had got so bad that those living on that axis were calling their loved ones to stay back.

Julius Berger began wirk in the road on Monday and commuters and drivers are saying they are suffering.

The repair work lasts till December.
