Chairman of the All Progressive Congress Adams Oshiomhole has called for the nationalisation of South African businesses in Nigeria as a way of our protest against the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians living in South Africa.
Speaking to newsmen in Abuja on Thursday Oshiomhole also told Nigerians to boycott businesses owned by South Africans in Nigeria deny them patronage.
Oshiomhole said that the government of South Africa under Cyril Ramaphosa has shown such lukewarm attitude towards the prolonged xenophobic attacks on Nigerians living in South Africa.
He regretted that South Africa enjoys the best of business environment in Nigeria with the citizens and businesses making billions of dollars in Nigeria under a peaceful environment which tgey repatriate home but sees the menial jobs Nigerians are doing in their country as big favour.
Oshiomhole said it was time Nigeria called the attitude of South Africans a stop and resolved that government would do everything to protect Nigerians in South Africa.
Meanwhile the police in Nigeria have pledged to protect businesses owned by South Africans in Nigeria.
Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu said that the police will not tolerate any act by any Nigerians who resort to criminality in the name of reprisal.
He said the police will arrest such persons and prosecute them according to the laws of the country.
At least more than 80 suspects were arraigned in court on Thursday for attempted looting and attack on Shoprite and MTN.
Following fears of reprisals the South African consulate was shut indefinitely by the envoy in Nigeria to avoid any breakdown of law.
