Omoyele Sowore, and his co-defendant, Olawale Bakare, have met the bail conditions imposed on them in respect of their trial on charges of treasonable felony.

The journalist is standing trial on charges that followed his August 3 arrest while he was organizing a peaceful pro-democracy protest.

They have been in prison custody for failing to meet the conditions set for their freedom as it was difficult for them to get sureties.

But when their matter came up on Wednesday, human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), their counsel told the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday the convener of #RevolutionNow protest and his co-defendants had met the bail conditions.

Falana said the defendants would be freed later on Wednesday.

Falana asked for an adjournment of the case on the grounds that the Department of State Service (DSS)  in whose custody the defendants have been detained and from where they were produced in court on Wednesday.

U. S. Today reports that Sowore’s family and friends are hoping the Haworth resident will come back to New Jersey soon.

He has pleaded not guilty to the charges, which include organizing a protest, insulting Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and transferring U.S. money to a Nigerian account.

Sowore is the founder of Sahara Reporters, a pro-democracy, anti-corruption online news service that has been critical of the Nigerian government.

Since his August arrest, he has been held in a prison in Nigeria’s largest city, Lagos.

The requirements of his bail, set at $829,000, prevent Sowore from talking to the press.
