Imo Govt. Seeks Better Relations With Police

Imo Government has sought for improved relationship with the Nigeria Police, demanding for the posting of more of its officers to the state as a result of the growth of its population in geometric progression.

Deputy Governor of Imo State, Eze Madumere made the call on Monday, May 22 when he received the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Research and Planning who is also the DIG Supervising the Nigeria Police, South East Geo-Political zone, Valentine Ntomchukwu, when the police chief paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Government House, Owerri, Imo State with other police chiefs.

Madumere who commended the Police for their partnership with the state government in achieving a safe Imo said the call for more of their personnel had become necessary due to the exponential growth in Imo population, and also, in the number of visits to the state following as a fast growing tourist state.

The deputy governor further explained that Imo government has created an enabling environment that would make the job easier for the security agencies.

He also spoke about the government’s effort in mobilising and setting up infrastructure to help in effective policing both at the rural and State levels, mentioning some of the structures like Imo Security network, Imo Community Watch among others, who help in intelligence gathering.

Responding, Ntomchukwu said the purpose of his visit was part of his tour of the States of the South East on the directive of the Inspector General of Police for the purposes of re-engineering the police strategies and to think out other strategies to contain new developments in criminality.

He used the opportunity to shower encomiums on Governor Rochas Okorocha’s administration for supporting police efforts at effective policing and crime prevention.

Ntomchukwu thereafter presented of Plaque of Honour to Okorocha for his efforts in crime prevention in the state.
