The federal government of Nigeria has rejected the danming assessment of religious intolerance slammed on her by the government of the United States of America.

The U.S. Secretary of State in a letter to the federal government of Nigeria on Friday, December 20 classified  Nigeria among countries where religious persecution thrives.

The statement signed by Michael R. Pompeo said Boko Haram, Cattle Rearers activities and other forms of criminality are simply fueled by religion intolerance.

Other countries listed with Nigeria include Iran, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia among others.

But in Sunday, December 22, Lai Mohammed, Nigeria’s minister if information and culture denied the U.S. tag and said Nigeria remains a secular state.

Mohammed said politicians were the ones fuelling the negative report having lost out  during the recently held general election.

He asked Nigerians to discard the report.
