Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has charged the new Commander of the 34 Field Artillery Brigade Obinze, Brig. Gen. Hamza Ibrahim Bature to join hands with him to move the state forward.
He made the call while receiving Bature at the Governor’s Lodge, Government House, Owerri, on Wednesday, May 31. Okorocha admonished the army chief to work passionately with him as doing so was the only way to succeed.
He said “I can see a connection between you and me which is the passion to strive, my principle word as a governor is what can we do to effect positive change in the lives of our people.
“The contact I have with anyone that comes to serve here is the people of Imo state and that is the spirit with which I speak. I always maintain that my people come first before anything else, the people remain the pivot upon which the Rescue mission Agenda rotates.”
Okorocha added: “I want you to join me in this drive, vision and passion to move the people and state forward. I have hunger for success, despite the huge development in the state I am not yet satisfied because I have not gotten the Imo state of my dream. I am not working with the mindset of this being a government job, I take it as a personal business held in trust for the people, which must succeed.”
The governor assured the commander of every assistance needed to succeed and further advised; “this is an opportunity for you to showcase what you can do and who you are as you may never get the chance again. Wise men make good use of opportunity and the unwise let it go.”
Responding, Bature said he came to officially present himself to the governor as the new commander and to pledge his support in ensuring security in the state.
His words: “Our operation is guarded by the constitution and the trust of our operation has been captured in the vision of the Chief of Army Staff which is encapsulated as to have a professionally positive army in the discharge of its constitutional roles.”
He however pledged to pursue a peaceful and secure government and people of Imo State while discharging his responsibilities in the state.
