. Citizens say God has spoken concerning Imo
Tens of thousands of Imo people both of All Progressive Congress (APC) extraction and other political parties trooped out en-mass on solidarity rally for Governor Hope Uzodinma on Saturday, insisting that the ruling of the Supreme Court meets with the wishes and aspirations of Imo people and must not be truncated or tampered with.
Addressing the teeming supporters on behalf of Governor Hope Uzodinma, the Deputy Governor, Prof. Placid Njoku stated that the period of election matters were over, and anybody talking about elections now may be talking about 2023 elections and not 2019 elections. Prof Njoku noted that the PDP lawyers who were Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANS) had six months in court to raise the issues they are raising now but failed to do that, “They are speaking now when God had spoken, he said.
The Deputy Governor therefore, charged the people to support Governor Uzodinma as he will enthrone good governance and bring prosperity to the land, according to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary/Media Adviser, Oguwike Nwachuku.
Also speaking, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Chiji Collins expressed satisfaction with the performance of Governor Uzodinma just few days into power. He identified Governor Uzodinma’s prompt payment of salaries and pensions as well as pledge that salaries would be paid by the 25th of every month with or without JAAC as part of the good things that await Imo citizens.
The Speaker noted that 19 members of the Imo State House of Assembly have already re-aligned with APC and that 26 members will be of the APC before the end of the month “because of the trust they have in Governor Hope Uzodinma.”
Other Chieftains of the party like Chief Marcon Nlemigbo, the State APC Chairman advised the citizens to see the coming to power of Governor Uzodinma as divine and in the interest of not only Imo State, but the entire South East region.
Nlemigbo said that Governor Uzodinma has taken Imo State to the central government, adding that the citizens would be the ultimate beneficiaries. He encouraged the Imo citizens to take advantage of Imo now being in the good books of the government at the centre.
Other speakers at the rally were representatives of the Youths, Students, Clergy, Artisans, Actors Guild, professional bodies etc.
They all expressed confidence in the judiciary for restoring the mandate Imo people gave to Governor Uzodinma and urged the Apex Court to maintain the status quo, they chorused that the judgment of the Supreme Court is irrevocable and can neither be revised nor tampered with.
Prior the rally that started from the Imo International Convention Centre (IICC), party members through music competition and other activities demonstrated their unalloyed support to Governor Uzodinma and the APC and encouraged those who are still to come to terms with the change in leadership in Imo to think again.
