Governors under the umbrella of Nigeria Governors Forum met late Thursday, June 1 at the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja to take a critical look at the unpaid salary arrears of workers and pensioners in the country.

Virtually all the states are indebted to their workers and pensioners in billions of Naira based on accumulated unpaid salaries. It is believed that 31 out of the 36 states in the country are broke and unable to pay.

Twenty-one governors attended the meeting, and at the end of their deliberation, it was gathered that how to utilise the second tranche of the Paris Club fund which President Muhammadu Buhari approved recently should be shared was agreed to be used to off set arrears of unpaid emoluments in the states where the government is finding it extremely difficult to pay.

The states whose governors were in attendance include Zamfara, Imo, Ekiti, Abia, Rivers, Benue, among others.
