Senate caucus members from the South East who visited President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, November 10  at his Aso Rock office left the place disappointed over his nonchalant attitude on the way cattle grazers are conducting themselves.

The senators had gone to complain to Buhari about the way people from South East region feel about the menacing activities of cattle grazers which in most cases has resulted to loss of several lives among other issues that border on marginalisation.

Sources said at the meeting, Buhari drew an analogy with himself as a cattle owner, telling his guests from the South East that whenever his cattle were hungry he was not in a position to control their behaviour, which includes where they went to seek for food.

Obviously saying it is difficult to tame the cattle and the herdsmen, the president wanted the Senators to put themselves in his shoes as someone who owes perhaps hundreds of cattle.

On other issues like isolating the South East from critical federal appointments the president promised to be fair to all the sections of the country, but was non-committal with regard to solutions to specific complaints and demands.

The senate on the same day threw away a bill on cattle grazing that was brought to it on the basis that cattle grazing does not fall within the things on the concurrent list in the constitution.
