Unknown gunmen on Tuesday, June 6 visited three banks in Iwo area of Osun State, killing three policemen, and carting away huge sums of money yet to be established.
The affected banks include Firstbank, Sterling bank and Skye bank.
The robbers according to sources were large in number and had what looked like a coordinated operation. They reportedly demobilised the armoured tank located around the banks by killing the driver before starting action.
The operation which was swift and methodical threw the ancient Iwo town into another turmoil, particularly with the killing of the cops, including a police inspector and a civilian.
Sources said the banks that were successfully robbed are located opposite and around Bowen University in Iwo.
While the operation lasted, Oke-Odo in the heart of the town was said to be thrown into confusion as gunshots boomed ceaselessly.
At press time, none of the banks could speak on the incident, but the police said they are on the trail of the suspects.
