Nigeria Breweries, Unilever, Everyday Supermarket Donate Relief Materials in Imo for Covid-19

The Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma has received donations in cash and other materials from the Nigeria Breweries (NB) Plc in the bid to assist the government fight the coronavirus scourge ravaging the world.

More donations were also received from Unilever Nigeria Plc and Everyday Supermarket by the Imo State government.

Receiving the donation, Governor Uzodimma pointed out that NB Plc took the right steps by taking the bull by the horn and stated that the company has continued to show positive interest in matters concerning the state, especially now that the government is beckoning on corporate citizens and individuals to help cushion the effects of Covid-19 pandemic in Imo.

Uzodimma thanked NB Plc for the Twenty Million Naira (₦20m) cash and other relief materials donated to the state, which include 20 crates of Malt, 20 crates of Maltina and 20 crates of Fayruoz soft drinks for the benefit of the poor and vulnerable to alleviate the effects of the disease.

He assured the delegation that government will continue in her strive to take all necessary measures to fight the virus to a standstill as it is already doing.

Presenting their message earlier, leader of the delegation and Brewery Manager, South Region, Mr. Tunde Jinadu stated that NB Plc found it a necessity to assist Imo State Government as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility, which anchors on issues such as giving succour to Nigerians that are in dire need and the vulnerable. He informed that what they have come here to do is being replicated in all the branches of the South Region.

Also on Thursday, April 30, Super Stores giant, Everyday Supermarket Nigeria Ltd brought 500 bags of 10kg rice and 1,000 cartons of Indomie Noodles to support the governor and government of Imo State in their struggle to bring succour to Imolites.

Also, domestic product king, Unilever Nigeria Plc brought a truckload of personal and homecare products like detergents, cartons of lifebuoy antiseptic soap, pick-up load of fresh milk and cartons of Black Tea beverage to compliment government’s efforts that will enable citizens stay well, fit, maintain good hygiene and remain safe during this coronavirus era and beyond.

Receiving the relief items on behalf of the government, the Chief of Staff, Government House, Barrister Nnamdi Anyaehie appreciated the kind gesture of the companies in supporting the government with palliatives that will help to alleviate the sufferings of the poor and vulnerable groups in the state as a result of Covid-19 pandemic.

He stated that the relief items will go a long way in addressing helpless situations among the poor and vulnerable ones in the state, while assuring that the items will be distributed to their target audience.

Earlier, the Managing Director and Chief Executive of Everyday Supermarket, Dr. Charles Dimnwaobi said his organisation is poised to work with the government, especially in this period of global coronavirus pandemic and, as a result, owes the state a Corporate Social Responsibility to assuage the suffering masses.

For Unilever Nigeria Plc, the Regional Sales representative, Mr. Uchenna Akuwudike also stated that the corporation owes it a Corporate Social Responsibility to assist in times of global calamities to every responsible government and to contribute in whatever little measure to put the disease in check and make life easier for the people.

Mr. Akuwudike, however, appealed to government to watch out for the expiry date of the products so as to deliver them early enough to serve out their purpose instead of expiring in store.
