Amaechi Begs Reps To Stop Probe Of $500m Chinese Loan

The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has prayed the National Assembly to suspend its probe of the $500 million loan from the Chinese government.

The minister made the appeal during an investigative hearing of the House of Representatives Committee on Treaties and Protocols on Wednesday.

He noted that the loan, which was for completion of the federal government’s rail projects may be thwarted in the event the Chinese government suspects there is disunity between the executive and the legislative arms of government.

The minister also reasoned that recurrent investigation may also suggest that the legislators are divided, a development, which he said, may  truncate the loan request.
