The Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) has begun an investigation to unravel the cause of the helicopter crash at Opebi, in Ikeja area of Lagos state on Friday.
ArmadaNews had reported earlier that the blackbox of the ill-fated copter had been recovered by the AIB from its wreckage to ascertain the cause of the accident.
The Helicopter believed to belong to Quarium Aviation with registration number, 5NBQW, crashed into a building on 16 Salvation Road, Opebi, Ikeja, Lagos, killing two of the occupants, including the pilot.
The third occupant, found unconscious, was immediately taken to the Intensive Care Unit of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for medical attention.
General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed that two persons, including the pilot, died immediately.
Also, an official of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed that the bodies of the crash victims have been deposited in the mortuary, while the third occupant was rushed to the state hospital for treatment.
The LASEMA boss said: “The agency received distress calls concerning a privately operated helicopter that crashed into 16A Salvation Road, Opebi, Ikeja and immediately activated the emergency response plan.
“The helicopter was carrying three people, one is in the intensive care unit at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital while the other two were killed on impact and their bodies have been deposited in mortuary. We are on top of challenges especially crowd control. Operation is ongoing and updates will follow.”
Meanwhile, the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) has begun an investigation to unravel the cause of the crash.
AIB General Manager, Public Affairs, Tunji Oketumbi, disclosed this to journalists in Lagos.
