A man, who identified himself as Ihebuzo Chris, AKA python, has released a video of how he gained easy access to Access Bank network and extracted the data of over 2,000 customers.
Chris said because Access Bank network was porous, he was able to intercept transactions, personal data and other secret information that can be used to steal money from customers’ accounts.
In 2018 alone, the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) revealed that Nigerian banks lost as much as N15.15billion to cyber fraud.
Specifically, the Corporation stated that internet and technology-based channels accounted for 59.2% of fraud cases and 42.83% of actual total loss suffered in 2018.
In the viral video, Chris showed the print out of the customer accounts, including their BVN, account numbers and other details.
According to PM News report, Ihebuzor didn’t plan to steal money from the accounts, according to the video, he just wanted to show that the Access Bank computers are porous and can be easily accessed.
The hacker, according to the report, claimed Access Bank got in touch with him and said they could get in touch again for him to return all the details he possesses.
The report quoted the hacker to have said Access Bank, on the other hand, reacted to the viral video of the hacker assuring customers that there are no threats to their account.
Ihebuzo who described himself as a ‘python’, a software developer, said he can do amazing things with the web.
He bank said: “Criminals have posted pages purporting to contain customer account information. We’ve alerted law enforcement agencies and ask that you ignore the post. There is no threat to your account balances.
“Please continue to follow security protocol by never sharing your account details” the report quoted the bank to have said.
