FG Approves $3.1 Billion for Automation of Nigeria Customs

The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved $3.1 billion for the end to end automation of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).

Also, the government has okayed the immediate upgrade of safe towers in four airport located in Lagos, Kano, Abuja and Port Harcourt. The airport upgrade will gulp N13.122 billion.

Zainab Ahmed, Nigeria’s Minister of Finance disclosed this after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) virtual meeting in Abuja on Wednesday.

The minister explained that the concessionary period is 20 years, while the funding would be solely from investors with the revenue expected from this automation pegged at $176billion.

Analogue systems in the four airports would be upgraded to digital, while weather reports hitherto transmitted hourly would be transmitted instantly.

The FEC, at the virtual meeting, stressed the need for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to consult Galaxy Backbone Limited, a federal government agency before budgeting adding all payments should go to the Treasury Single Account (TSA).

On the fight against drug abuse, the FEC approved the purchase of a property at the Aviation Village, Abuja to serve as accommodation for officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at a cost of N1.196billion.
