The Federal Government of Nigeria has directed all the104 unity schools across the country closed on March 19, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, to reopen as from October 12.

Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, announced this on Friday in Abuja, during a media briefing.
According to the minister, the decision to reopen the unity schools was reached after consultations with stakeholders and the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-1

Adamu stated that with the flattening of the infection curve, the government has come to the conclusion that it is now safe to allow the reopening of schools.

The minister said that schools are at liberty to fix resumption dates and ensure that there are adequate safety measures while doing so.
He warned that schools who fail to adhere to outlined COVID-19 safety protocols, would be closed if there is an outbreak from such learning facilities.
