The Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Adamu, Tuesday, announced the replacement of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) with a newly set up unit, known as Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team.
Frank Mba, the Force Public Relations Officer, disclosed this in a statement Tuesday evening.
The newly created SWAT will perform the duties of SARS.
According to the release, the recruitment of policemen to be assigned to the SWAT has commenced and operatives of the new unit will undergo mandatory psychological and medical examination to ascertain their fitness and eligibility for the new assignment.
